Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) FAQ

When it comes to PRP Brisbane, we are here to answer your questions and provide you with the best experience.

When will I see results?

The stimulating and regenerating effects of PRP will begin immediately upon injection. Aesthetic results are typically visible four to six weeks after treatment.

Results may last up to eighteen months but this is variable. Regular treatments will help to achieve and maintain optimal results; you can your next appointment with our PRP Brisbane therapists before you leave your current appointment.

What should I do before my PRP treatment?

Our dermal therapists advise that you:

Avoid sun exposure for four weeks.
Consider antiviral preventatives if you have a history of cold sores.
Cease taking oral corticosteroids (e.g. prednisone) two weeks prior.
Cease taking any non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medications (e.g. ibuprofen, Voltaren, Celebrex, Mobic) ten days prior.
Avoid or minimise alcohol consumption, blood-thinning medications (e.g. aspirin) and supplements (e.g. fish oils, ginseng, omega-3 and -6, vitamin E, multivitamins) one week prior.
Cease any topical medications and high-strength cosmeceuticals containing vitamin A, retinol and glycolic acid one week prior.
Avoid microdermabrasion, aggressive peels and exfoliants two days prior.
On the day of treatment, drink at least one litre of water and refrain from excessive exercise to assist with blood collection.

Note: do not cease prescribed medications without first consulting your treating general or specialist practitioner.

What can I expect?

Prior to your first treatment at our PRP Brisbane centre, you will need a consultation to assess your suitability for this treatment and to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.

The procedure involves a small amount of blood being taken from the body (similar to that of a blood test) and spun in a centrifuge machine for approximately five minutes to separate out the red blood cells, plasma layer and platelets. The platelet rich plasma is then re-injected into the treatment area using a fine needle, needling device or is used in conjunction with skin needling. A numbing agent will be applied prior to treatment.

You may experience:
Redness in the treatment area; usually resolves within 24 hours  .
Swelling  in the treatment area; usually resolves within three to seven days  .
Bruising; usually resolves in seven to ten days.
Tenderness to touch; usually resolves in two to five days, improving with time.
Localised mild to moderate pain; usually resolves in two to five days, improving with time

Avoid the use of any skincare products not recommended by us for 48 hours.
